Trump Administration Establishes SnapChat as Primary Form of Communication Following Leak of Classified Info
According to The Atlantic, top national security officials for President Donald Trump, including defense secretary Pete Hegseth, accidentally texted plans for upcoming military strikes to a group chat that included Atlantic editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. Anybody could have been in that chat; the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, the commander-in-chief of the United States, who am I to say who would be a greater threat to national security. This oversight put military personnel at risk and could have potentially put them in harms way. It was a very dangerous and reckless act, only surpassed by the strikes themself.
Mistakes are made, and the Trump administration is now making moves to remedy those mistakes. According to a recent White House press release: βIn an effort to bolster security all communication channels for this administration will be moved over to the popular multimedia messaging app and social media platform, Snapchat. This guarantees that all messages, whether photographic or textual, will be deleted after opening or after a set amount of time. If messages are screenshot, the administration will be able to see the action and handle the retaining of confidential information accordingly.β
The effectiveness of this move will show in the coming months. Faith in this administration may have just hit an all time low, and if a photo of Mark Rubio with a babyface filter on is leaked then there may be no turning back.
